Evaluation of speed hump program in the City of Omaha

This is a summary of a 3-month study of speed humps in Omaha. The warrants for speed hump installation in the city are listed, and a survey of existing speed humps is discussed with emphasis on accident statistics and speed studies. Concerns of city officials including the fire division, police division, maintenance personnel, and the law department are reviewed. Concerns center around potential liability, and emergency vehicle access. It was found that accident statistics do not indicate an increase or decrease caused by speed humps. The devices have a statistically significant effect on the 85% speed. These and other conclusions drawn from the study are noted.
