Aspects of a simple triangular plate bending finite element

Abstract This paper discusses an early phase of a study whose aim is the development of economical, yet still accurate, finite elements for dynamic analyses. Transverse shear deformation is utilized to construct a nine-degree-of-freedom plate bending element. Numerical difficulties, not unexpected, occur. A device for overcoming these difficulties is applied.
