Low cost V-band filter and antenna on liquid crystal polymer substrate

In this paper, we present for the first time low cost V-band compact planar band-pass filter and circularly polarized antenna array that have been designed, fabricated on liquid crystal polymer substrate and measured. The 4 pole elliptic filter exhibits a measured minimum insertion loss of 2.6 dB at 68 GHz for a relative 3 dB bandwidth of 11% and a rejection better than 22 dB at an offset of 10% away from the center frequency. In addition, a 2 by 2 linearly polarized series path antenna array has been developed and exhibit a 10 dB bandwidth of 4 GHz, a gain of 11 dBi and a 3dB beam-width of 40 degrees in both azimuth and elevation (E and H plane).
