A theoretical approach to prediction of service life of unbonded flexible pipes under dynamic loading conditions

One important aspect in the design of unbonded flexible pipe for dynamic service is the prediction of life under cyclic loading conditions. This paper presents the methodology behind flexible pipe life prediction including analytical determination of pipe stiffness, interlayer contact pressures, stress recovery, slip between layers, wear and fatigue. Particular emphasis is placed on the derivation of pipe stiffness and on the mechanism of slip between layers.
