Standards and Methods for the Evaluation of Hyperspectral Imaging System Performance

Hyperspectral imaging is being adopted for a wide range of applications including those related to industrial and manufacturing processes. The ability to spectrally discriminate differences between materials depends on a wide range of variables in the imaging system. Evaluating the performance of the system allows for the estimation of the probability of detection and false alarm rates. The performance of the hyperspectral imaging system can often be tied directly to costs, safety, and quality. This talk will cover both basic standards (such as reference diffusers and wavelength standards) and advanced methods (including microscene generation and the NIST Hyperspectral Image Projector) that can facilitate how well a hyperspectral imaging system performs.
