Exact Reconstruction for Dual Energy Computed Tomography Using an H-L Curve Method

The dependence of the attenuation coefficient on x-ray energy causes image artefacts for polychromatic x-ray computed tomography. An exact dual energy reconstruction method based on the H-L curves is proposed. The atomic number and equivalent electron density distribution of the scanned objects can be reconstructed with this method. Compared to post-reconstruction methods and the conventional dual energy pre-reconstruction technique, this method is more accurate. Using a look-up table for the extraction of dual energy parameters and a simple FBP algorithm for CT reconstruction, this method achieves high computation efficiency.
