Displays

Abstract A display represents a true man-machine interface (MMI). Several types of displays are analyzed, including nematic (twisted, supertwisted, active matrix) and smectic (heat addressed, ferroelectric). Polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (LCs) including heat-addressed PLCs are considered also, as well as ferroelectric PLCs. On this basis, construction of PLC displays (also called polymeric LCDs) is described; they include also portable displays.
