This paper is concerned with a preventive maintenance methodology for nuclear power plants. An electromagnetic inverse analysis using a transmitter‐receiver coil probe plays a key role in the method. The computational method is composed of two stages, crack detection stage and sizing identification stage. The crack detection stage is formulated by an inverse source problem using regularization of bounded variations. The sizing identification is discussed within the output least square error problem using virus evolutionary genetic algorithm (VE‐GA) is proposed.
