Design of underwater optical communication system

Underwater communication and networks are very useful for many applications such as oceanography, environmental monitoring, and underwater surveillance. In this paper, one kind high-speed underwater optical communication and networks are designed for those applications. The system is a half-duplex communication system which combines the transmitter module and the receiver module together. The transmitter module uses low power blue-green LEDs, which is driven by MOSFET driver circuit, to transmit messages. The receiver module uses photodiode and signal processing circuit to receive signals. The experimental results verified that the proposed system can cover 10m underwater distance with 115.2kbps as its maximal rate, so as to provide a new promising method for underwater network applications.
