AVS-M is a video coding standard for mobile application, which is a part of domestic Audio Video-coding Standard(AVS) series standards. AVS-M encoder complexity is remarkable due to mainly variable block size motion estimation and exhaustive RDO mode decision. An algorithm of the optimal predicted macroblock mode selection for inter prediction is introduced, based on the researching the multi-prediction macroblock mode of AVS-M standard. The encoder computational complexity can be reduced greatly because just only part of modes would be chosen to compare with each other. Experimental results show that encoding time is obviously speeded up while maintaining similar visual quality.
