A Data Handler for the PILER System.

Abstract : A data handling system has been designed for use with the PILER System of automatic program translation. The Data Handler facilitates the transmission of strings of data between core memory and drum on the Univac 1108. In addition to servicing the PILER by handling details such as buffering, overlapping I/O operations, look-ahead, blocking, maximizing utilization of core buffers and drum blocks, directing searches, editing, and error action, the Data Handler also has capability for chaining associated data records by creating links, relinking after record deletion or alteration, and performing other data management functions. This is not a generalized data management system, although its components may prove useful for other Univac 1108 programming applications. (Author)
