The method comprises the steps of detecting whether access equipment which is connected with electronic equipment is drive-free equipment or not before a starting stage when the electronic equipment is in the starting stage; writing updated firmware in the access equipment in the electronic equipment if the access equipment is detected to be the drive-free equipment; operating the updated firmware which is written in the electronic equipment when the electronic equipment is in a normal operating stage after being restarted. According to the method and the device, disclosed by the invention, the problems that when a corresponding drive program is not installed in the electronic device, firmware in a dedicated SP (Self Propelled) flash tool cannot be read, and the refreshing on the firmware is failed can be solved, and the effects of simplifying a firmware refreshing process and increasing the firmware refreshing success rate can be achieved.
