Zero Emission Engine (ZEE) : Der isotherme Dampfmotor als Fahrzeugantrieb

Looking at all the propulsion systems with extemal combustion, the steam engine shows the highest potential of operating equivalent in all the essential characteristics of current internal-combustion engines. Extremely low exhaust emissions without exhaust-gas aftertreatment (SULEV- Concept), absent combustion noise, highly favorable torque and performance characteristics, a weight-to-power ratio and an overall installed size comparable to present vehicle power trains and a mixed cycle fuel consumption at the standard of a diesel-powered vehicle are conceptional possible and practicable. Since the middle of the 1990s, IAV GmbH, Ingenieurgesellschaft Auto und Verkehr, in Berlin has been working on a modem steam engine with the objective to determine whether the ZEE is a concept capable of development to series production.
