Standards and benchmark tests for evaluating large scale manipulators with construction applications.

Abstract : New applications of large scale manipulators for construction are continually emerging and making them multi-functional construction machines. This report presents a set of meaningful benchmark tests to gauge the overall static and dynamic performance of different large scale manipulators in order to achieve a means of relative comparison. The most important static and dynamic performance criteria are defined and a method provided for evaluating them. The report reviews the application of human factors engineering to large scale manipulator acquired by The University of Texas. Furthermore, a method is presented to quantify potential improvements to the human-machine interface. (MM)
