~ith the rapid development of control engineering into all types of industries and situations, c: need has arisen for a degree that will equip a man to enter this ever expanding field. d ntrol engineering forms a specialist option on the final year of many electrical engineering tgre~s, and electronics, the heart of much instrumentation, also figures prominently. It is bear, therefore, that any attempt to provide a first degree in instrumentation and control will re t~ a large extent based on electrical engineering. This is even more evident when it is eaIlZed that the use of computers, telemetry and digital instrumentation, will also need to be ~vered in the degree. For the man to be of value in the various process industries a wider d OWledge of basic processes is required, e.g. fluid flow, temperature measurement, machine ~Ynatn.ics, etc. This knowledge must be obtained at the expense of more detailed electrical ~OWledge on the conventional type of degree.
