Effect of FACTS devices on enhancement of Voltage Stability in a deregulated power system

The power producers and customers share a regular transmission network for wheeling power from the point of generation to the point of consumption in a restructured power system organization. Every parties in this open access surroundings may try to produce the energy from the cheaper supply for greater profit margin, which may lead to overloading, infringement of line flow, voltage and stability limits. In power system environment voltage stability plays major role, it is integral part of the power system stability. In general Voltage stability problems occur more frequently in a heavily loaded system. The cause of voltage instability could be numerous. The control of voltage levels can be accomplished using Flexible Ac Transmission System Controllers like Static Var Compensator, Thyristor-controlled series capacitor. This paper focuses on the enhancement Voltage Stability using FACTS devices. In this paper VAR loss Sensitivity method used to find out best possible location of FACTS devices. The results were simulated on modified IEEE-9 bus system using power world simulator 8.0.
