Detection of the acid glycoproteins of saliva on SDS-polyacrylamide micro-disk gels.

On the basis of histochemical studies of carbohydrates, it has been demonstrated that the neutral and acid glycoproteins in the mammalian salivary gland differ significantly between the serous and mucous segments1,2). In previous reports, we described the characterization of glycoproteins in the secretory segments3) and saliva4-6) from the rat submandibular gland, by SDS polyacrylamide micro-disk gel electrophoresis. However, the characterization of acid glycoproteins in these studies was excluded because a method for the detection of acid glycoproteins on SDS
