Early history of multiple scattering theory for ordered systems

Abstract The beginnings of Multiple Scattering Theory are contained in a very small number of publications. Six major papers in sixty years constitute the preparation for the development of MST as a tool in solid state theory. These papers are analyzed with regard to their contents and interrelationships and to their relevance to us today.
