Design and Implementation of State-based MAC Protocol for UANs in Real Testbed

It is difficult and high-cost to deploy a real testbed of underwater network, so most research on MAC mechanism of underwater acoustic network is mainly based on theory analysis and simulation test. However, dynamic underwater environment and complex communication conditions are hard to be simulated and reproduced by software. In this paper, we build a real testbed of underwater sensor network, and implement the state-based MAC protocol on the embedded motherboard. We carry out a large number of tests on our underwater acoustic network MAC protocol. The tests prove that the state-based MAC protocol can reduce conflicts and improve data delivery rate, also achieve fast and stable transmission hop-by-hop.
