An introduction to ALGOL 68

Abstract An introduction to ALGOL 68 and, to a lesser extent, its defining report is given. A basically semantic approach to the description is chosen, which helps to emphasize the generality and structural simplicity of the language. Syntactic questions are treated less thoroughly, and input/output is omitted completely.
