Flex-rigid architecture for active millimeter-wave antenna arrays

A flex-rigid assembly is proposed for densely packed active antenna arrays. The multilayer compound bases on Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) and common RF substrates. The integration of the RF components as well as thermal and mechanical aspects are addressed. A complete 4×4 Ka-Band array providing polarization multiplex is demonstrated. Far-field measurements of the antenna elements are discussed.
