Comparison of Machine Tool Elements Made of Polymer Concrete and Cast Iron

The paper deals with the static, dynamic and thermal behaviour of machine tool elements made of polymer concrete and composed of polymer concrete and cast iron. Elements of a grinding machine have been measured under the influence of forces and of thermal load. The same measurements have been done on proven cast iron constructions of these elements. So their behaviour could be compared. The theoretical analysis of simplified models showed the quantities which caused the differences in the behaviour. This resulted in suggestions for suitable designing and dimensioning polymer concrete elements and composites. The work is to be considered as a contribution to verify the practicability of the use of polymer concrete in machine tools.
