Preparation and some magnetic properties of amorphous GdxFe1−x alloy thin films

Amorphous GdxFe1−x (0⩽x⩽0.35) thin films were prepared by rf cosputtering using the iron target covered partially with small gadolinium pieces. The composition dependences of the saturation magnetization, M‐H loops, and domain structures were studied. The coercive force was obtained as a function of the composition and temperature. Such magnetic properties of GdFe sputtered films were very similar those of amorphous GdCo films.
