A new class of Preisach-type isotropic vector model of hysteresis

Abstract A new class of scalar hysteresis operators is obtained from the classical Preisach scalar model of hysteresis by introducing a transformation of variables dependent on a suitable function g. The operators of this class are defined by means of a new type of Play operator and are characterized by the property of having the same scalar input–output relationship. These operators are then extended to the isotropic vector case by using the appropriate vector extension of the scalar Play operators. It is shown that the function g, which does not affect the scalar input–output relationship, does affect the vector hysteresis curves. The influence of the function g on vector hysteresis is illustrated by reporting numerically computed rotational hysteresis losses curves.
