Real-World Results

This article presents a case study of Baldwin Park, California, which is using parking as a catalyst for redevelopment with a vision of creating a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly urban center. The authors outline nine best practices used in the design of the development project. These practices encourage planners to understand transit context, program for mixed use, evaluate parking demand, integrate walkability, mitigate modal conflicts, provide clear wayfinding, design for low maintenance, include revenue concepts, and incorporate security design.
