Bone Circulation in Hemorrhagic Shock

Shock has been studied extensively, and there is an almost inexhaustible list of references and many excellent monographs 16 2’L32,40 covering this field in depth. Much is known about the regional circulation in shock, including evaluation of blood flow, mechanism of control, and functional integrity of various sectors such as the coronary 5,7.25.26, the cerebral 5 R26, the splanchnic 1,5,14,26,28 the renal 5,27 and the adrenal 10. 15 18.22,34 However, little is known about the circulation in bone during shock, and a review of the literature failed to disclose a previous study on this subject. The purpose of the present study was to show what the fundamental changes in bone hemodynamics are, and the mechanism whereby such changes are brought about, in comparison with the changes and mechanisms of other regions and organs.
