Parametric synthesis of SISO automatic control systems

Abstract A new technique is presented for the synthesis of controllers for use with single-input-single-output (SISO), linear, deterministic, time invariant, stable/unstable, minimum-phase/nonminimum-phase and proper/improper plants to form a stable closed loop feedback system satisfying a set of user defined performance measures in a near optimum fashion. The procedure uses the factorization approach to controller synthesis and is based on a new factorization algorithm. The technique is demonstrated by solving an example problem, and the final results are compared with an alternative design method obtained previously. Sensitivity analyses with respect to the choice of optimization technique and the choice of starting solutions for the optimization algorithm is presented.
