This paper is concerned with an approximate analysis of
load-deflection relationships and maximum strength of eccentric
columns(H sections and Box sections) with strong axis bending.
Considering the strain hardening range, the stress-strain
relationship from stub column test results was assumed to be
tri-linear(Fig. 2-1)
Through the numerical analysis procedure, the load-deflection
curves are obtained. (Fig.3-1, 2)Except the stocky member, the
maximum strength is expected to be equal to the apex on the
load-deflection curve.
A series of welded built-up columns-H sections and Box
sections-made of SS 41 grade of steel with various slenderness
ratio were to failure under same eccentric loading conditions.
These experimental results were tested compared with approximate
analytical curves and numerals.
