This discussion is concerned with the more metabolic aspects of the subject (in particular with hypocalcaemia, hypercalcaemia and vitamin-D deficiency) and will not consider the local neurological consequences of skeletal deformity, which may produce serious, and sometimes widespread, neurological symptoms and signs by direct compression.
