The Current State and the Future Plans of the Satellite Laser Communications

衛星通信システムは,広域性や同報性に優れ,災害 時の緊急回線の提供を可能とするなど,情報通信ネッ トワークにおける重要な役割を果たしている.また最 近では,衛星によるデータ中継や地球の観測,国際宇 宙ステーションにおける滞在や深宇宙領域の探査など, 宇宙を利用する範囲も広がっている.こうした活動の 進展に伴い,宇宙で取り扱われるデータ量も増加し, 例えば衛星による高解像度の撮像データや高分解能な 観測データを迅速に地上へ伝えるといった要求が高ま りつつある.このため,衛星と地上及び衛星間を結ぶ 通信ネットワークの高速化が求められている. 高速な衛星通信ネットワークの実現に重要となる 技術要素として,衛星交換技術及び高速データ通信 技術が挙げられる.衛星交換技術については,これ までに ACTS や iPStar などの衛星が打ち上げられ, ベントパイプ型と再生中継型の交換がそれぞれ実証 された [1], [2].また最近になって,情報通信研究機構 (NICT)が,衛星交換機能と高速データ通信機能とを合 わせもった超高速インターネット衛星(Wideband In-
