Investigation of a matrix converter-excited brushless doubly-fed machine wind-power generation system

Combined with the advantages of matrix converter, brushless doubly-fed machine (BDFM) and vector control scheme, a variable-speed constant-frequency (V-SCF) wind power generation system is presented in this paper to capture maximum wind energy and to improve the generated electric power quality. Excited by a matrix converter, the system enables the generator capturing maximum energy from wind at optimal speed and permits power effectively regulating by applying flux-oriented vector control strategy. The good performance of the system obtained from simulation demonstrates that the application of BDFM fed by the matrix converter is an optimum configuration for wind power generation.
