APPLICATIONS OF CASE STUDY RESEARCH - REVIEW

The book Applications of Case Study Research by Robert K. Yin (Yin, 2003) is among the classical books on case study methodologies recommended for qualitative practitioners. My initial reading of this text was done at another institution of higher learning. One of the reviewers is an applied statistician, Paul Bourne, was schooled in objectivistic philosophical assumptions and this meant he interpreted the world through idealism-proof, absolute truth and measurement of issues. New Zealand trained qualitative expert, Dr. Lloyd Waller introduced me to Denzin and Lincoln’s seminal work titled Handbook on Qualitative Research with its many epistemological assumptions in qualitative research. He was also first introduced to John Creswell’s Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design, and Applications of Case Study Research at the master’s level. It was however, Yin’s (2003) work that became the qualitative methodology Bible, handbook, guide, and nutrition in my academic research diet; but heand his co-author had never thought to review it until now.
