Adaptive proxy-based content transformation framework for the World-Wide Web

Data-type specific content transformation, such as selective filtering and compression (lossy), could help reduce the load on the World Wide Web (WWW), as well as improve the latency of users. Current static Web transformation mechanisms, being unable to adapt dynamically to the available network bandwidth and data requirement, result in uniform loss of quality, and incur additional processing overhead for every user. Hence, there is clearly a need to perform personalized transformation on the Web content for different users to suit their constraints. The authors propose an adaptive proxy based content transformation framework to ensure the delivery of Web presentation that is most appropriate to the users. The unique feature of the framework is that it offers a balance between the quality of Web presentation and the Web latency. At the same time, it also fully utilizes the available network bandwidth and minimizes the computation and workload of servers due to transformation.
