Development of a Visual Reality Headset and Its Applications in 3D Interactive Bike Race Games

This paper presents the development of a visual reality headset. Aided by the real-time head orientation tracking ability, this compact head mounted display device allows users to step inside three-dimensional scenes and completely immerse themselves in the virtual world. The device can be widely used for entertainment, fitness, education, telepresence, etc. This work illustrates the design of a set of modules including head tracking, optical subsystem, display unit, and ergonomics design. In addition, an example of its applications in 3D interactive bike race games is extensively described.
