Contact dynamics in the field of elastohydrodynamic Lubrication

The results for circular contacts form the basis of the discussion as to how the various parameters affect the film thickness, pressure, stiffness and damping. From this basis, we will study the effect of ellipticity and starved lubrication. Experimental results will also be presented. The good, qualitative agreement between theory and experiment shows that the model accurately describes the various phenomena observed in the contact region. The model thus proves to be a valuable tool for understanding the behaviour of the contact. Aided by a dynamical analysis of the structural elements, this will enable us to predict and control the dynamic behaviour of the bearing.
