MODELING ECOTOXICITY RISKS AT THE RIVER BASIN SCALE: INTEGRATION OF THE SPECIES SENSITIVITY DISTRIBUTION (SSD) CONCEPT

This paper demonstrates application of the Species Sensitivity Distribution (SSD) concept in the retrospective risk assessment of chemicals in water. For a series of model compounds, ecotoxicity data were compiled and validated, and the SSD curves derived. Parameters of the SSDs are being implemented into the Decision Support System REACH-ER developed within the EU FP7 project AQUAREHAB. Principles and practical aspects of the SSD application in the risk assessment are discussed.
