Workshop on Interlocking Concrete Block Pavements, ARRB, Melbourne, October 1978; proceedings

Interlocking concrete block pavements are relatively new to Australia, although they have been widely used in Europe for many years. The design and construction of block pavements has been based, therefore, on European experience and the question arises as to the suitability of this experience in Australian conditions, especially as the European designs are based on local experience and not on specific research based principles. Dr B Shackel, of the university of New South Wales, has recently carried out research aimed at the introduction of an Australian design guide, and this workshop presents his research findings and preliminary design guide. Papers presented include a preliminary state of the art review, an experimental investigation of the response of interlocking block pavements simulated traffic loading, interlocking concrete block pavement research, and the design and construction of interlocking concrete block pavements.
