A sensitive position measuring device for biological systems.

Abstract The measuring device enables slow movements of small objects, such as arthropod eyes, to be detected without placing a significant load on the moving system. The optimal sensitivity of the described device is such that a 1-mm excursion of the object will produce a 60–70 mV output from the sensing device. The d.c. output from the sensor is linear for an excursion of up to 15 mm of the moving object.
