Thisworkinvestigates theeffects ofpacket loss onperceived audio quality using anacceptability test, seeking toidentify the maximumamount ofpacket loss that canbetolerated before the quality becomes unacceptable. An acceptability test isfaster andeasier forthesubjects thantraditional tests suchasITU-R BS.1116orMUSHRA.Itisseenthat theacceptability decreases quickly asthepacket loss rate increases. Interestingly, nodifferences arefound inacceptability between audio encoded with128 and64kbit/s AACinsituations with packet loss. Statistically significant differences between different temporal loss distributions andbetween audio clips arealso found. Fromtheverdict given after theendoftheclip, results indicate that packet losses early intheclip isperceived asless disturbing than morerecent losses.
