Expert System Methodology in Process Supervision and Control

The necessity for applying artificial intelligence (AI) to engineering and control problems originates from the growing complexity of modern engineering and control systems, as well as from the traditional expense, time constraints, and limited availability of human expertise, AI technology offers the tools that enable us to {1–3}: capture and retain expertise that was gained over many years of engineering, amplify expertise that is needed to successfully deploy new methods and applications, and design systems that reason intelligently about nesessasy actions to take in real time, thus freeing operational staff.
