TECHNIQUES FOR EFFECTIVE TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION TRANSFER

A wide variety of dissemination techniques exists and there is a need to plan carefully the dissemination of new ideas. A specific dissemination plan should be developed for research results which considers cost, adaptability, immediacy, rigor and audience. In general, personal communications and informal material will work better than formal technical reports although each may be required as part of an overall dissemination package. Effective dissemination of research results is at least as important as the findings themselves. The researcher who recognizes this and is committed to information transfer is one who also has a firm understanding of user needs. Such an understanding is crucial to the intelligent, creative development of a program of information transfer designed with the user in mind. (Author)
