Abstract At a higher level monitoring includes status monitoring, limit monitoring, trend monitoring etc. as well as turbogenerator diagnostics. For the estimation of internal states, linearized or reduced order observers are used leading to the serious disadvantage that the observer operation is dependent on the operating point and sensitive against external disturbances. In this contribution, a distributed transputer based realtime state reconstruction observer tor large turbogenerators is introduced. The internal states, especially the rotor currents (damper), the polar angle, polar voltage and the rotor- and stator fluxes are represented and visualizated through several graphical schemes. The observer and the graphical representation of the internal states are realized on a transputer network, consisting of 11 transputers. This realized transputer network allows the experimental real time application and comprehensive simulation of the turbogenerator dynamics and the non linear observer using different machine data sets in a range from KW to MW.
