Wideband multilayer multi‐permittivity half‐split cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna

In this article a wideband multilayer multipermittivity (MLMP) half-split cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) fed through coaxial probe is proposed and developed. The idea of multilayers of different permittivity is introduced in half-split dielectric resonator antenna for getting wide bandwidth. A parametric study is performed to optimize the antenna performance. The proposed MLMP half-split CDRA is excited with TM21δ (0 < δ < 1) mode. The proposed wideband MLMP half-split CDRA provides measured percentage input impedance bandwidth of 63.7% which covers the frequency range of 4.05–6.9 GHz. The simulated and measured radiation patterns are consistent throughout the operational bandwidth. The average measured gain over the band is 5.79 dB. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
