A METHOD OF SOLVING COMPLICATED BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS WITH ITS APPLICATION TO COUPLED RODS

In this paper, a method of solving complicated two-dimensional boundary value problemsis advanced. The complicated boundaries are exactly transformed using the method of Lin andChung, and the method of taking geometric mean of the upper and lower bounds to the bound-ary of the cross section into relative regular boundaries, which are then further accuratelytransformed into perfect and regular boundaries by conformal trainsformations, leading even-tually to a homogeneous field patten having an exact known solution, so that the solution ofthe transformed problem can be obtained. This method and its application are expounded withan example of coupled rods transmission line between ground planes. The accuracy is confirmedby comparing the numerical values obtained with those by some other methods and by theoreti-cal analysis. As an aid to design, values of characteristic impedances of this coupled trans-nission line are also given.
