A Web-based Seamless Construction Supply Chain Management Model: Project’s Life Cycle Perspective

There is growing interest in the adoption of supply chain management (SCM) philosophies in the construction industry with adversarial environment. Based on the concept analysis of supply chain and SCM in general industry, presents a conceptual framework of project corporation-dominated construction supply chain, in contrast to the client-led or the main contractor-dominated construction supply chain structure existing in most of literature, according to construction project management realities in China. Regarding construction SCM as the integration of construction business processes and participants involved in construction supply chain and the coordination of interorganizations in project’s life cycle, a seamless construction SCM model supporting by Web-based technology is proposed that integrates various fragmented project phases and involves several parties with different objectives. The Web-based framework and coordination mechanisms across phases and between all parities of the construction supply chain are presented and discussed. It is proffered that the proposed model helps to offer an efficient, collaborative and synchronous working arrangement whereby the interfaces between various phases of the project’s life cycle are integrated with one another.
