Veterinary Technician’s Daily Reference Guide, 2nd edition.

This reference guide contains an abundance of information in well laid out and easy to follow tables. It would be an asset to both a veterinary technician’s or veterinarian’s library. Tables in each chapter are in a point-form format; a great feature for a reference guide. The information is easy to find and provides the technician with a good reference point to work from. The “skill boxes” within each chapter provide specific details and tips. There is a “color plate” section with microscopic photographs including hematology, urinalysis, and parasites. A very helpful tool for microscopic identification of cells and irregularities. Emergency medicine is a vital component of a veterinary practice, relocating this chapter to the back of the book or with a color indicator (red) for this chapter would make it easier to find. The chapters are in tabular form and it is easy to read the content, although the headings are a bit light in color making some of the subtitles difficult to read. Perhaps the addition of color to this area would aid the reader. Each chapter throughout the book had prominent information/diagrams that stood out. To highlight a few: Anatomy contains clear and crisp diagrams which are well-labelled. Skill Box 2.1 — “Care and Feeding of Orphaned Puppies and Kittens” provides a recipe for milk replacement when a commercial diet is unavailable. Handy to have on an immediate basis. Normal values included in the tables are invaluable for interpreting results. The table under “Radiology,” which includes radiographic images for evaluation and setting alterations, is good to have in the radiology area for quick reference for settings and setting changes. “Wound Care” provides excellent photographs for bandaging with good explanations and tips. Rounding out the book with an appendix, glossary, and abbreviations made this a complete reference guide. It was a pleasure to review this book.
