Unified wrench model of an ironless permanent magnet planar motor with 2D periodic magnetic field

An ironless permanent magnet planar motor (IPMPM) is a promising multi-degree-of-freedom driving device in many motion systems. In this study, a unified wrench model (UWM) of an IPMPM with two-dimensional (2D) periodic magnetic field is proposed by transforming the integral terms of the Lorentz force. The UWM is available for coils with arbitrary shape and arbitrary orientation and describes the general form of the wrench excited by all the harmonic components of the magnetic field. The following investigation shows that the existing (semi-) analytical models are special cases of the UWM. As a useful extension, a rapid modelling method based on the UWM is presented to reduce the modelling difficulty. Finally, the proposed UWM and the rapid modelling method are verified by triangular-shaped coils in different orientations.
