Vegetation Cover Degree Monitoring in Helanshan Mountain Project Area of Sino-Germany Cooperation Ningxia Shelter-forest Project

During the 5 years'implementation of the Helanshan Mountain Forest-grass Conservation Project under the Sino-Germany Cooperation Ningxia Shelter-forest Project, the monitoring of 75 standard sample plots in conservation area and 12 control sample plots show that the total vegetation cover degree of the project area was increasing year by year,to 44.2% in 2000 from 35.0% in 1995. In the same time the total vegetation cover degree in the control area was decreasing in general. It provides a scientific theory basis for overall forest conservation and vegetation rehabilitation in Helanshan mountain.
