KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES OF HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS TOWARD SEXUALITY IN THE INSTITUTIONALIZED ELDERLY

This study examined the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of nursing home caretakers toward elderly sexuality. The relationship of certain sociodemographic and institutional factors to knowledge and attitudes also were examined. The analysis revealed that the more knowledge the providers possessed, the more restrictive their attitudes were toward elderly sexuality. Education, religiosity, position, nursing education, time in current position, and continuing education were variables found to be significantly related to knowledge and/or attitudes.
