An improved method for fault location of chemical plants

Abstract This paper proposes an improved method based on Kokawa's approach (Kokawa et al., 1983, Automatica19, 729) for fault location in large-scale chemical plants. In this method, a frame system is used to describe the failure propagation network in detail. Human experience on failure propagation is represented in a fuzzy sense. The signed node and branch is introduced for representing abnormal symptoms of failure propagation. A new fault location procedure is given. As an illustrative example, a pump system in a liquefied petroleum gas plant has been taken up to show the usefulness of the proposed method.
